Hi! I'm Lee, and this is Spoonless Activists.
We're a community for anyone who wants to do something about this world we're in, something to make it a better, more humane place - but is short on resources. Low spoons? Not much cash? Not much time? I wish I could say "we've got you", but at this stage we've got a small collection of ideas and a willingness to keep muddling through.
As we develop our plans and strategies, I'll update this post.
Thoughts? Ideas? Drop them in the comments below.

Happy Monday! RFM and a check-in?
Jul. 18th, 2022 12:48 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hello, all! It's been a while since anyone has been active here, which is totally understandable - we're all low on spoons, right?
I'm not currently able to do the individual posts breaking down each action item, but here is Radio Free Monday on
copperbadge's dreamwidth with ways to give, news to know, and recurring needs.
If you're still hanging around here, I'd like to have an informal check-in to see what sort of activism you've been engaging in and what plans you have going forward. I'll start us off in the comments. My intention with this is just to let everyone check in with themselves and take inspiration/ideas from each other. You certainly don't have to share, and there's absolutely no shaming! Remember: self-care is an act of political warfare.

Link: https://speakout.38degrees.org.uk/campaigns/7345
Deadline: (if relevant) 4/5/2020 (today)
Time estimate: 5-10 minutes
Requirements: mental / personal information
This is a campaign by 38degrees - I received an e-mail about it, but cannot find more information on the website.
Tomorrow, trade negotiations between the UK and US begin, and the UK has not yet committed to not selling off the NHS or forcing it to pay US prices for medications.
We're in the middle of a pandemic that proves that a taxpayer-supported, universal health system which is free to access is vastly superior to the US for-profit model.
You can send your own e-mail through the link above. You need to be signed up for 38degrees (they do good work) and pass on your address. 38Degrees provides a few talking points, so the e-mail did not take me long.
(Mods: I tried to tag this with two existing tags, 'NHS' and 'petition', but got told I cannot create new tags. Could you fix that, please?)

Link:https://www.covidiq.org/
Location: USA only, so far
Deadline: n/a
Time estimate: approximately 5-10 minutes/week
Requirements: cellphone texting (physical ability to do texting, afford cell service/cost per message if your plan charges per message), willingness to answer a few relatively non-invasive questions about your health and demographics (options include "other" and "prefer not to answer" for at least race/ethnicity and gender, possibly more)
Anything else: Conventional data collection relies on the extremely limited supply of COVID-19 testing kits, but smart phones and sophisticated data science offer an alternative. A non-profit, volunteer team of experts in medicine, epidemiology, data science, behavioral science, consumer privacy and engineering have taken inspiration from Google's Flu Trends and are predicting the spread of COVID-19 through self-reporting, to help public services and healthcare pros proactively target preparations where most needed. You can help by signing up to contribute your info. Text “together” to 203-204-9964, or enter your number at the website.

Link: headlines Should You Really Stop Paying Your Student Loans Due To Coronavirus? and Here's How to Contact Your Student Loan Servicer During Coronavirus [both forbes.com, both with large pictures of publicly known members of the current administration at the top of the article]
Location: USAmerica
Deadline: none in either link; HOWEVER, I would talk to your servicer asap in case there is a deadline not listed and BEFORE you miss a payment.
Time estimate: < 5 min each link; each link has several embedded links that would add additional time; contacting your servicer adds more time
Requirements: mental / social / decision making
Anything else:
copperbadge recommends that you "continue to pay if you are able until you have either confirmed with your loan servicer that you don't need to or have made an agreement about nonpayment with them. Most of the links I'm seeing are going to private loan administrators who may have different requirements for forbearance and may not have posted the most updated information."
This forbearance started March 13 (retroactive) and continues until September 30.
