Location: USA only, so far
Deadline: n/a
Time estimate: approximately 5-10 minutes/week
Requirements: cellphone texting (physical ability to do texting, afford cell service/cost per message if your plan charges per message), willingness to answer a few relatively non-invasive questions about your health and demographics (options include "other" and "prefer not to answer" for at least race/ethnicity and gender, possibly more)
Anything else: Conventional data collection relies on the extremely limited supply of COVID-19 testing kits, but smart phones and sophisticated data science offer an alternative. A non-profit, volunteer team of experts in medicine, epidemiology, data science, behavioral science, consumer privacy and engineering have taken inspiration from Google's Flu Trends and are predicting the spread of COVID-19 through self-reporting, to help public services and healthcare pros proactively target preparations where most needed. You can help by signing up to contribute your info. Text “together” to 203-204-9964, or enter your number at the website.
